Just watched the film also and thoroughly enjoyed it. Real eye-opener - shows a side of Japan that I’ve never seen before, but also shows just how alike people are all over the world. Good Luck to Naoki and Yoshie.

I used to go to Night Dew and tried to find you last time I was in Yamagata - 2007. Yokokura from Billy didn’t know where you were, and the last time I’d spoken to you, you’d been worried about your liver, so I was worried that you might have died. I was glad to see you were okay - and still the thoughtful and quietly funny man I knew. I used to come to Night Dew with Chris Church, and Gary… sometimes Simon and Rick. Best wishes, Naoki, and hopefully see you next time I’m in Yamagata! I live in England now - with my wife (from Nagai!)

Was indeed very interesting and enjoyed it thoroughly. Some of the part was painful as I work those environment and knows how cruel to be “Different” in Japanese mono-society especially in country side. But the fact is, Naoki was one of the most sane, head-screwed on the right way Japanese guy that I have seen sometime, including Japanese expat clients who I see everyday. Naoki expresses what he see and feel, and sometimes shows certain vision that majority of Japanese would find hard to swallow. Naoki often described himself as a shadow. I was having a bit of trouble understanding what exactly he try to explain. Reading his letter here, I finally understand that he was inspired by you, Yoshie & her family, and found that everything has 2 side, what’s behind of shadow is light, something shines, and he managed to crack his closed mind. Thank you for the program, and best wishes to all.

One of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot. It captures reality in such a candid way. Reality we often choose not to see. Absolutely amazing work.

I watched the documentary last night and I have been thinking about it ever since! It was so different from the usual programmes about Japan that we get in the UK and I felt really privileged to be able to get such an honest insight into this aspect of the country. I really want to say thank you to Naoki and Yoshie for being brave enough to live their life in front of a camera, and to Sean for investing so much of himself in the making of this film. A brilliant collaboration!

Listen . . . just watched this film last night. Many congratulations to Sean and Naoki - a wonderful film by everyone full of generosity and honesty. It really affected me - a haunting study of economics and the odd ways we love one another and the fragility of ’safety’ for humans. My heart goes out to Naoki and Yoshi - I hope they make it and find some kind of happiness in the midst of such awful pressure. Love and prayers from Ireland!

Naoki is exceptional and deserves a turn of good luck and Yoshie is young and lovely with lots of conscience. I wish them both the very best.
