Many congratulations to Sean and Naoki - a wonderful film by everyone full of generosity and honesty. It really affected me - a haunting study of economics and the odd ways we love one another and the fragility of 'safety' for humans. My heart goes out to Naoki and Yoshi - I hope they make it and find some kind of happiness in the midst of such awful pressure. Love and prayers from Ireland! A rainbow gathering is when like minded individuals meet in nature and live freely together for a month in tents, tipi's etc. They share ideas, music, art....food.....wonderful moments. It was so different from the usual programmes about Japan that we get in the UK and I felt really privileged to be able to get such an honest insight into this aspect of the country. I really want to say thank you to Naoki and Yoshie for being brave enough to live their life in front of a camera, and to Sean for investing so much of himself in the making of this film. A brilliant collaboration! I watched the documentary last night and I have been thinking about it ever since! Some of the part was painful as I work those environment and knows how cruel to be "Different" in Japanese mono-society especially in country side. But the fact is, Naoki was one of the most sane, head-screwed on the right way Japanese guy that I have seen sometime, including Japanese expat clients who I see everyday. Naoki expresses what he see and feel, and sometimes shows certain vision that majority of Japanese would find hard to swallow. Naoki often described himself as a shadow. I was having a bit of trouble understanding what exactly he try to explain. Reading his letter here, I finally understand that he was inspired by you, Yoshie & her family, and found that everything has 2 side, what's behind of shadow is light, something shines, and he managed to crack his closed mind.
